What is a spirit?

A spirit is a supernatural being or force, often seen as an incorporeal entity. They are believed to be the essence of a person, place, thing, or event. Spirits can be good or evil and can be encountered in both the living and the dead worlds.

Spirits are often thought to be able to interact with the living world, often through possession or hauntings. They are also sometimes said to be able to provide guidance or healing to those who encounter them. Oftentimes in the form of an internal spirit animal.

In many religions, the spirit or the soul is thought to be separate from the body, and so once a person dies, its spirit moves on while the body decomposes on earth.
